I thought I would compile a FAQ list for prospective guests.. So here it is!:
Q. How far from downtown Mendoza is your home? We're trying to figure out if we'd need a rental car or not if we stayed at the Quinta.
A. Yes you need a car to go to downtown Mendoza, be it with a car rental or cab.. It is a 15 minutes drive But then again, the Quinta is right in the middle of the wineries.. You can get around biking. P.S. buses are not reliable, and take for ever to arrive.
Q. Do you rent for less than a week? How far are you from Mendoza itself? We don't know if we will be renting a car or not. Like to bike.
A. I rent for less than a week.. We are very close to the most important wineries.. But you can get along well with cabs, if you don't want to rent a car.. I am 15 minutes from the heart of Mendoza city.. I am also 5 minutes away from Chacras, a very quaint little town..
Q. Can you tell us what we would expect to pay for taxis to Mendoza and wineries? A. Taxis to Mendoza typically cost around 15 pesos, under 5 US$. Q. What does a taxi from the airport to Quinta typically cost? A. Around 40-50 pesos. Q. Is it possible to rent bicycles to visit nearby wineries? A. Yes absoultely. There is a company that does just that, it is Bikes and wines, here in Mendoza. Q. If we wanted to explore further up into the countryside, what might a driver for the day cost? A. There is a gentleman here by the name of Marcelo, e-mail: marcelo.villegas@hotmail.com. He has lived many years in Canada, so his English is perfect.. He can drive you around. His rates are reasonable. Q. We have heard that renting and driving might not be advisable for foreigners. A. No problem renting for foreigners. The only hitch is that drivers here are reckless, so be forwarned. Q. Or are there buses up to the national parks? A. Forget about buses. They are unbearably slow!
A. I am afraid all buses stop only for the occasional snack on the way and maybe refueling at a gas station... There is Andesmar bus service here: http://www.andesmar.com/shop/default.asp Unfortunately, most internal flights have to pass via Buenos Aires... So to go to Cordoba you need to fly East to BA and then change planes to go back West to Cordoba.. Very stupid but that is how things work here!
